I do remember this event. Mickey Mantle went 5 for 5 and I watched from the Mezzanine level in the right field stands. Mantle was by far my favorite player and anything he did was thrilling to me, never mind having a game with 2 home runs, 2 doubles and a single.
Stan Bahnsen pitched this game. It seems he was always scheduled to pitch when I attended a game. I remember him as a great bunter, evidenced in this game with 2 sacrifices. He also had a great season in 1968, winning the ROY award.
As recounted in another posting, in 1978 I attended an event at a restaurant called Shooks Lounge and Restaurant in Kendallville, Indiana. I knew Mantle was going to be there so I brought this scorecard for him to sign. He didn’t say much as I explained to him my experience of being at this game, but he must have appreciated my gushing, evidenced as how he signed.
